Athol Country Bed & Breakfast
Located in Southland we offer a modern private accommodation wing. Featuring a spacious queen size bedroom with ensuite bathroom, double glazing, air conditioning and UV filtered safe drinking water. Athol is a peaceful rural community, surrounded by farming and high country sheep and beef stations. I enjoy working on my cottage garden growing wild flowers, herbs and fruit. I have been raising ducks for 10 years as pets, for egg supply and they help fertilise the garden and they keep the pests away. Ducklings arrive every November – December.
It is approximately a 1 hour 15 minutes to drive from Queenstown Airport to Athol on The Southern Scenic Route, depending on traffic and road conditions. Athol Country Bed & Breakfast is midway between Kingston and Lumsden and on route to Te Anau, the gateway to Milford Sound. The popular Around The Mountain Cycle Trail is just minutes away. The slow flowing Mataura River is the trout fishing purists dream. It is regarded by some as the ultimate in dry fly angling for Brown trout and the occasional salmon. Between Athol and Garston access to the willow-lined river is easy to access across farmland.
I have a 20 year background in hospitality, customer service and retail sales management. I am a professional pastry chef and barista with a diploma in Culinary Arts/Patisserie. I also studied at The New Zealand School of Travel and Tourism and I have a diploma in Tourism & Tour Guiding.
The bedroom leads onto a private deck, and looks out over the cottage garden with my ducks happily foraging around. Queen size bed with quality mattress and pillows. Pure cotton sheets and extra blankets are always available. Walk in wardrobe with storage for extra luggage. Electric heater provided. The ensuite bathroom is light and has a spacious shower, gas hot water, electric heater, towels, heated towel rail and hair dryer. Complimentary hand and body products.
Amenities include mini refrigerator with complimentary milk and bottled water, electric kettle. Plates, cutlery, cups and glasses provided. Tea selection and coffee.
